RE

 RE Intent

Religious Education is an integral part of our school and central to our teaching. Our vision and values are an everyday part of school life and are explored and expanded on in collective worship, assemblies and though the subject of RE.
We want our children to understand Christianity, including the telling and re telling of bible stores and knowing how they fit into the bigger picture of the faith. Alongside this, understanding of other world religions is a key part of our curriculum, increasing their knowledge which results in being tolerant of others and understand how beliefs may differ from their own.

Understanding their spirituality helps develop their place in society and to build a positive inner relationship with themselves and other beings. We also value the time to be able to see awe in the world and to be able to reflect and have time for peace.

Curriculum Drivers

  • Use our key learning behaviours to persevere in our work to help us understand how religion can help us understand the world around us.
  • Have an understanding of diversity and equality for all showing respect for the world and the variety of people living in it.
  • Show friendship and understand how to build positive relationships with people of all faiths, beliefs and religions.
  • Ask questions, be inspired and learn from others.
  • Reflect and think about our own spirituality.

Enrichment Activities

There are activities planned for each year including regular trips to our local church to celebrate key dates in the Christian calendar, visits to other significant religious buildings such as St Pauls Cathedral, or Westminster Abbey in London and our local Buddhist monastery. We have our own Ethos Committee with representatives from each year group and member of the local community helping support the vision and values of our school. The Ethos Committee supports the messages in collective worship and develops prayer spaces which are used in school and in the local church.

Collective Worship

We have a carefully planned programme of collective worship, based on our 12 values. The daily worship could be whole school, key stage or class based and is either led by Mr Carrick, the teachers, children or members  of the local church community. See Collective Worship policy for more details.

Impact

Children are assessed against our curriculum endpoints through a variety of different methods: small assessment tasks, retrieval practice, low-stake quizzes, classroom responses and teacher judgements.

Leaders monitor teaching and learning through child voice, parental questionnaires as well as book looks and learning walks and using the online app SeeSaw to record evidence of learning. The development of the children in school is also monitored through daily informal conversations.

  • Children will develop lifelong learning behaviours such as pride, resilience and team work.
  • Our children will be able to understand, appreciate and success in modern Britain.
  • Our children will develop a lifelong love of learning through our vision and drivers.
  • Our children will be responsible global citizens and courageous advocates through the Christian Values we have instilled in them during their time in school.
  • All children will leave our school, fully equipped for the next stage in their learning.
