Welcome to the Cheviots - Our brand new classroom below!
Our class is made up of 20 children taught by Miss Burns and supported by our Senior Teaching Assistant Ms Kellsall. Reception is a wonderful year group where the children are able to develop their personalities and learn new skills throughout the year.
We have been very lucky this year as the Cheviot's have moved into a new classroom with a brand new outdoor area! The classroom has been designed so that the children have access to resources all year round. They are able to choose what to create, build or role play. The classroom is a large space with plenty of room for moving around in the different areas, please feel free to pop in and see it!
Phonics and reading is extremely important in Reception, we follow the Read Write Inc programme which offers a fantastic range of stories and sounds to learn! We believe in hearing every child read and we ensure this happens every week.
Our first topic topic is 'Extreme Weather' this is an exciting topic to start the school year with. We will have the opportunity to take our topic lessons outdoors and become weather reporters!
Autumn Term - Extreme Weather
Spring Term - Traditional Tales and Percy the Park Keeper
Reception had a fantastic start to school life, they have fully settled in Penny Bridge and are excited to develop their learning!
We will be focusing on Traditional Tales for the first part of Spring term; in particular Little Red Riding Hood and the Gingerbread Man. As a class we will explore the different versions of the traditional tale and how the characters feel in the story. Then the next part of our term will focus on Percy the Park Keeper, this is a wonderful topic to include growing plants and learning about wildlife.
