Mr Maddock has given in and the big build has started!  Here are some pictures of the engineering marvels in progress:

This afternoon, our Year 5s have been trying their hands at a little bell ringing.

It's CURRICULUM WEEK here at Penny Bridge Academy and here in the Texel's we're doing a week of Design and Technology.

We've been given a design brief by Mr Big of the BIG Corporation.  The children have to build model sailing boats that are able to carry a special load without sinking.  They're going to have to cost all their materials and try to keep their expenses down too.

So far, we've been considering the brief and the materials and drawing our plans in 3 views - just like real designers.

So far, Mr Maddock hasn't let them start cutting and sticking but it's getting harder to resist.

Today we have been carrying out a traffic survey of the A590 from the safe vantage point of our own playing fields.

The children have created Tally Charts of Car Colour or Vehicle Type.  These have been used to draw Bar Charts of the data.

These three keen students have, in their own time, been researching the life stories of some of the famous people after whom we have named our work groups.

Today, they gave us a presentation about what they had learned.

In Class 4, we're currently learning about angles and directions.  We've made our own "clocks" (with only one hand) to help us work out clockwise and anticlockwise as well as gauge half and quarter turns.

This has lead on to a conversation about degrees and many have already made the connection to compasses, labeling their own from 0 to 360 degrees.

We've tied the work into our current English study of Swallows & Amazons; sailing around the hall and taking turns to navigate our own miniature Swallow.
